@ your Library - October 2008

The Friends of the Library are holding their Adopt-a-Book campaign Oct. 20 – 25.  We are asking you to help us add more new books to our new shelves by sponsoring one of our selected titles for the library.  Tax receipts for your donation will be given, and a bookplate with the donor’s name (or other name of your choice) will be inserted in each book – plus, you can be the first one to check it out!  The library has a variety of books (adult & children’s, fiction & non-fiction, plus CD audiobooks) with a range of prices waiting to be added to the collection.

Adult best-sellers waiting for you to add them to the shelves, include the latest by:  Philippa Gregory (The Other Queen), Donna Morrissey (What They Wanted), Tess Gerritson (The Keepsake), Faye Kellerman (The Mercedes Coffin), Alexander McCall Smith (The Miracle at Speedy Motors), Helen Humphreys (Coventry), Sarah Douglass (The Twisted Citadel) and other high profile new titles such as Blackstrap Hawco, The Lace Reader, The Gargoyle & lots more!  We also have popular non-fiction titles including: The Last Lecture, The Night of the Gun, Wolf Totem, My Stroke of Insight, The Brain the Changes Itself, Panic in Level 4, With or Without God, Petite Anglaise, The Great Warming & more.

There’s also a wide selection of new titles for kids – picture books, chapter books, and non-fiction!  Our last Adopt-a-Book in 2006 was a great success – we hope for your support this time.  For more information, contact the library (613-269-3326).

Fall Bulb Sale:
Thank you to everyone who bought bulbs during the Friends of the Library’s recent bulb sale.  This fundraiser made over $800 for the library.  By the time you read this, the bulbs should be available for pick-up at the library, call for details.

Homework Help:
Visit our webpage at for quick links to a variety of homework resources for all grade levels, K-12 – including French language homework resources! Our website makes it easy to connect to information at the grade level you need.  This is a great way of accessing reliable information from online editions of print reference books and magazines/newspapers – just like the print sources, but with the convenience of the Internet.  Home access is free to library members – contact the librarian for your personal login!

  StoryTime:
You and your little one(s) won’t want to miss StoryTime in October!  Our themes are:   Thanksgiving, Books & Libraries, and 2 (not-so) spine-chilling weeks of Halloween.  StoryTime continues to run every Friday morning at 10:00(ish).  StoryTime is for preschoolers and kindergarteners (ages 5 and under) and a parent or caregiver.  We have stories, songs, rhymes, rhythm instruments, and a simple craft, plus we are now using Every Child Ready To Read programming to promote pre-literacy skills.  StoryTime is a great way to introduce your child to books & build their pre-reading skills in a fun & relaxed atmosphere.

New Books:
We’ve just added:  The Flying Troutmans (Miriam Toews), Rough Justice (Jack Higgins), Doors Open (Ian Rankin), plus lots of new romantic suspense.  Lots of great new titles are waiting in the wings – come by and see what’s new!
